Profile:
The three of us who make up Free Association have been playing music together since 2008, first in a pick-up band for the mid-week contra dance in Atlanta, Georgia. Since putting our act on the road, we have enlivened contra dances in five states and a dozen cities across the Southeast.
Our repertoire and style draw from Northern music - New England, Quebecois and Celtic traditions - while we also embrace old-time tunes, contemporary contra dance tunes, and an increasing number of original tunes.
Other influences make their way into our music by a process of free association.
Dancers have told us more than once that we sound like we’re having fun. We do! It’s infectious! Join us!
